Meet James

My name is James Trapp.  Although I was born in Columbia, South Carolina, I moved to Severn, Maryland, following 20 years of honorable service in the United States Air Force, and have called Anne Arundel County home for more than 30 years.

I have held positions with the Department of Defense and with the Department of Homeland Security, where I was an occupational safety and health manager responsible for evaluating and strengthening health and safety programs throughout DHS sub-components.  This work taught me how to navigate complex organizational challenges and build consensus and helped to prepare me to serve as a member of the Maryland Democratic Central Committee.

I am immensely proud of my professional accomplishments, but my true calling has been to help others.

As chair of the health care initiatives committee for the Mu Rho Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., I led a team that sponsored Anne Arundel County health and wellness fairs, partnering with medical professionals to deliver essential care and services to underserved communities

I led youth talent-hunt programs that paved the way for Anne Arundel County high school students by providing exposure, encouragement and scholarship opportunities in the performing arts. Our student performers gained valuable life lessons that helped them excel in the classroom and beyond.

Veteran suicide is an issue that is deeply personal to me. More than 6,400 veterans die by suicide each year, and I believe we must do more for those who have sacrificed so much. That conviction is why I led efforts to support the Annapolis Out-of-the-Darkness Suicide Prevention Campaign. I also led support for local initiatives for the National Kidney Foundation, promoting kidney disease prevention activities in our community.

In addition, I actively volunteer in a wide range of community programs, including fatherhood initiatives, youth mentoring and scholarship programs, voter registration, feeding the hungry, clothing collections and Toys for Tots.

I am a two-term past chapter commander of Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter 13 in Severn, Maryland.  As a certified DAV chapter service officer, I volunteer my time assisting disabled veterans in preparing and submitting their disability claims for submission to the Department of Veterans Affairs.

I am proud to serve on the Trustee Board of Huber Memorial Church in Baltimore, Maryland.  My wife, Felecia, and I cherish our family, which includes five adult children and 13 remarkable grandchildren who continue to inspire us every day.

If elected I will address the concerns we all share: the over development in our community and along Route 3, rising energy costs, confounding HOA rules, and the seemingly never-ending saga of the proposed landfill on Conway Road.  We were promised better and we deserve better.  As a member of the Maryland Democratic Central Committee, District 21, I will consistently use my voice to ensure your voice is heard.
